Ukigumo, also known as Floating Clouds, is a heavily varigated variety. Some years, especially for cooler climates, it can be solid white. Ukigumo will hold its speckled white variegation deep into the summer. It grows upright and is quite spreading-branching. It will reach around 12’ in 15 years. This is definitely a spring interest tree. We recommend very low amounts of fertilizer and shade for this variety, adding phosphates in fall alongside the shade should bring about more white variegation.
